CALLING ALL FILM AFICIONADOS FOR DIFF VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

The 11th edition of the renowned Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) is quickly approaching, and is a must-attend cultural event to watch the most anticipated films of the year, a platform to discover the best in Arab filmmaking and attend the Dubai Film Market (DFM), the business and trade hub of the Festival. Its valued volunteers have helped make it the success it is today, with their diligence, attention and unwavering commitment.

Now, DIFF is putting the call out for this year’s great team of volunteers. UAE nationals and residents from across the UAE are being invited to volunteer for 8 days of exciting cinematic action; which sees renowned filmmakers, talent, fans and media descend on Dubai.

Anyone with an interest in film and cinema, who loves meeting new people and wants to support the UAE’s growing film industry should apply now! Positions range from box office and admin roles, ushers and red carpet management to marketing and media; and are open to all over the age of 15. Applicants should be dedicated, hard-working and should be willing to make up part of a great team.

Mohammed Alhousani, Senior Manager Human Resources and Administration, DIFF, said: “Thousands of volunteers have given up their precious time to help us make the Festival what it is today. I’m proud to say that our teams of volunteers have performed their roles with such passion, enthusiasm and dedication to the job at hand. DIFF has become a major international festival, attracting celebrities and filmmakers from around the world and contributed to the development and growth of the regional industry and our volunteers have been there at every step of the way.”

Some of the benefits of volunteering include gaining access to DIFF screenings after shifts, receiving free food vouchers (during shifts), being given a letter of recommendation, getting the opportunity to network at a leading cultural event, as well as being awarded a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the DIFF chairman. Nasser Al Qasimi said: “Working at last year’s DIFF was fantastic – which is why I keep coming back every year! I’ve had such a great time working with the Festival, met loads of great new friends and will be taking home lots of new memories. It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I can’t wait for the Festival to start this year.” Shereen El Mahdy added: “I’ve really gained an insight into how the film industry works, as well as met so many great people. I truly believe that my experience at DIFF has helped me decide on my future career, and has shown me the skills I need to be successful in the work place.” Samina Yusuf, Volunteer Manager also said: “We’re so lucky to have such great volunteers giving up their time for us – we really wouldn’t be able to do it without them. They’ve worked so hard to make the Festival operate smoothly and we’re looking forward to welcoming them all again this year.”

The Festival’s annual volunteer recruitment sessions will be held on Thursday 13th November (Emirati day for UAE national volunteers) from 5-7pm; and on Friday 14th November (all and general volunteers), from 5.30-8.30pm, at the Knowledge Village Conference Centre, Dubai.  This year there will be two sessions.
