UEHC was invited by Singapore Hockey Association represented by Suketu to participate on one day international tournament & Exhibition matches with their National and local teams. The touring team was sponsored by RAK Bank and Co-sponsored by Mashreq Bank, Huuwai, NBAD, CBI, NBF, ADCB, Splash, Al Khaliji Bank, Samba Bank, Ravi Restaurant & Grosvenor house. Captain Ahmed Al Sayegh was not happy with the performance of the team as UEHC finished third in the one day tournament, they battled with sixteen top local teams with some professional players playing for some of their clubs. UEHC boys were in full form in their first exhibition match with Singapore Cricket Club at Padang, they combined well to trounce the opponent by 6 goals to nil. Unfortunately Waheed the touring captain & star forward Aqeel got injured in this match. UEHC boys gave their best even though they arrived on the same day after travelling for 7 hours, UEHC team was pleased with the reception and hospitality of Singapore Cricket Club, they showed the true sportsman spirit and discipline to each and other players, also Captain Ahmed Al Sayegh and Safdar Cheema Vice Captain exchanged souvenir’s to the host.

One Day Five A Side Tournament: 

Sixteen top teams from Singapore participated in the tournament hosted by Balestier Lions Hockey Club, it was new experience for UEHC as it was half ground and five A side format as FIH promotes hockey in this format, however UEHC had to face tough challenge from the opponents they managed to reach to the semifinal and lost to the team which won the tournament. According to Mr. Suketu Singapore boys were pleased to play with the touring club team, host team is well versed with the Asian Hockey Format and participates regularly in the International Tournaments like Common Wealth Games and tournaments held by Asian Hockey Federation.

Singapore International Team:

UEHC part-time players had to face a full time professional Singapore International under 21 team, (it was a setback to UEHC when their touring captain Abdul Waheed & Star Forward Aqeel Ahmed got injured in their first encounter) In the first 15 minutes UEHC boys showed excellent performance as the game was held at 0-0 but in the second 15 minutes Singapore forwards changed their tactics and started targeting UEHC backs for short corners. They earned 5 short corners in the second 15 minutes, Their drag flicks were able to penetrate through UEHC goal and they were leading 2-0 at half time, they again dominated and got the sixth short corner in the 3rd 15minutes and made no mistake to take the lead to 3-0, according to Goal Keeper Biju in U.A.E. we do not have a professional AstroTurf hockey field and therefore our performance was not up to the level of our captains expectation, however our half’s and forwards made all efforts to display their skills in the fourth 15minutes and scored one goal. In the dying minutes Singapore team earned another short corner and made no mistake to take the lead to 4-1.

Captain Ahmed Al Sayegh thanked Singapore Hockey association and also extended invitation to participate in Dubai Hockey Events; during these event Zimbabwe youth team coach Ben who had come there with their school team to participate in exhibition matches was inspired with our team performance and has invited our team to Zimbabwe for hockey matches, later on his way back he visited Dubai and met United Emirates Hockey Federation coordinator Raza Abdi and discussed the possible ways to promote youth hockey between U.A.E. & Zimbabwe.
