The Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB) – a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) – was a lead sponsor of the two-day Indian Association Congress (IAC) held in Mumbai on the 24th and 25th of August. The sponsorship falls in line with their vision to position Dubai as the leading tourism destination and commercial hub of the world.
On the occasion, Hamad Mohammed Bin Mejren, CDME Executive Director, Business Tourism commented, “IAC forms a major regional platform with many important organizations within India’s versatile trade industry gathered under one roof and as such we are very pleased to have been able to contribute to this important gathering. India is a significant market for Dubai’s business tourism industry and the sponsorship of the congress’ two luncheons provided excellent networking opportunities for organisations to explore Dubai as a premium MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) destination.”
The congress was organised as a mega networking event at Hotel Trident Nariman Point in Mumbai with the aim to create a platform for decision makers of various fields like medicine, education and trade, to come together and share their best practices. Running for its second consecutive year the IAC has been a success with several big industry players in attendance including All India Plastics Manufacturers Association, Indian Vegan Society and Regional Coordinator of International Vegetarian Union, Bombay Management Association, among others. During the conference, several issues regarding the future of associations in India were highlighted and discussed including opportunities, challenges for international associations, fostering better ties with the members, future strategies for the association sector of the country, and its role and importance as the backbone of India’s booming economy.
Mejren further said, “Dubai has been ranked in the top fifteen best MICE destinations in Asia Pacific and the Middle East region, after well established destinations like Singapore, Hong Kong and Melbourne. DCB with its multi-pronged approach and skilled team is working hard to further elevate the profile of the city”.
In 2011 Dubai hosted 34 international association meetings, not taking into account corporate meetings, and was ranked one of the major international meeting destinations globally by the International Convention and Congress Association.
The Dubai Convention Bureau is a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, a non-profit government funded organization, whose aim is to further develop and increase Dubai’s share of the international MICE and special events markets, whilst maximizing the economic prospects of Dubai.
